🍾 22 Short Vs 22 Long
PostedBy: DigitalDan Re: .22 Short CB vs. The long. - 10/13/10. CB longs will shoot better in a LR chamber but they won't fit in a gun chambered for shorts. Never heard anyone claim exceptional accuracy with the longs, but they do well enough from what I hear. CB Shorts in a short chamber can be amazingly accurate.

Then came the "long" with a bit longer case and the same 29 grain bullet loaded with a bit more black powder. Then later still came the "long rifle" bullet with a heavier 40 grain bullet before the turn of the century.
The.22 Short high-velocity exceeds the performance of the .22 Long (with the exception of CCI's High Velocity 1217fps Long loading), and the .22 Short has displaced the .22 Long
Ammunitionproduced in .22 Long Rifle is effective at short ranges, has little recoil, and is cheap to purchase. These qualities make it ideal for plinking and marksmanship training.
Themost common by far being the .22lr. The .22 Mag offers a much greater amount of punch over the standard .22 with a cost much lower than the 22 Hornet, something to consider. My M6 is a Springfield Armory manufactured .22lr/.410. It is minute of squirrel accurate, but the platform does take some getting used to.
22 Short v. .22 Long Rifle. by Scott Tschirhart » Tue Mar 09, 2021 4:20 pm. When I was a kid, it seems like .22 Short was much more commonly used than it is
Thecase length of the 22lr caliber is 15.6mm and the case length of the 25 ACP caliber is also 15.6mm. The rim diameter of the 22lr caliber is 7.1mm and the rim diameter of the 25 ACP is 7.7mm. As you can see by the measurements above, the 25 caliber is slightly bigger in diameter but equal in length to the 22 LR caliber cartridge.
Energy Furthermore, the muzzle energy of a .22 Hornet round averages out to 710 ft-lb, while a .22 LR Long Rifle round averages out to about 100 ft-lb. One way to think about this is as such: a foot-pound is a unit of energy equal to the amount of energy required to raise a weight of one pound a distance of one foot.
With40-grain bullets the .22 WMR leaves a rifle barrel traveling at 1,800 fps, whereas .22 LR ammo zips along around 1,200 fps. This brings a significant difference in muzzle energy for the .22 Mag.—300 or more foot-pounds at the muzzle for the WMR versus about 140 ft.-lbs. for the Long Rifle. In addition, there is a much wider selection of
Inthe world of rimfire ammunition, the 22LR VS 22 Mag cartridges each have their own strengths and purposes. The .22 LR is a versatile and affordable option, perfect for plinking, target practice, and entry-level shooting experiences. The .22 Magnum offers more power, longer range, and better performance for small game hunting and self-defense.
Bothof our example rounds (and really, all 9mm and .22 rounds) are effectively short-range rounds, negating the importance of ballistics. Nevertheless, our .22LR has a ballistics coefficient of .116 due to the round-nose design and the simple fact that the bullet doesn’t have enough mass or velocity to cut through air at long distances.
